Meet The Team
Troy Kurtz
Pastor Kurtz was born in Bloomington, Illinois on April 3, 1967. He was saved at the age of 8 as a product of the bus ministry. He spent the vast majority of his life in Flora, Il where he graduated high school. After high school he served in the U.S. Army from 1987-89. At the age of 27 he rededicated his life to Christ and at the age of 29 God called him to preach.
Pastor Kurtz served at Calvary Baptist Church in Flora for 8 years as the teen director. For 3 years he served as a pulpit supply preacher for several local churches. He was also the interim Pastor for 11 months at Calvary Baptist Church in Olney IL.
On June 1 2005, he became the Pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Altamont, Il. The church re-chartered, relocated, and renamed to Heartland Baptist Church in April of 2015.
The church is also blessed to have Pastor’s wife, Mrs. Amy to serve alongside her husband of 24 years. Mrs. Amy serves as the church secretary, assistant nursery director and Sunday school teacher. They have 6 living children, Logan, Morgan, Lauren, Landon, Mason and Brendan and 1 at home the Lord, Jaden

Bobby Sims
Bobby was born in Du Quoin, Illinois, on December 26th 1978. This is where he spent most of his life and graduated high school. He was saved at the age of 30 after a Wed service at Calvary Baptist Church in Flora, Illinois.
Bobby served at Calvary Baptist Church for 6 years. During that time he served in various teaching areas. While serving at Flora God also called Bobby to preach and work with young people. He then worked as the teen director for the next 2 years.
On March 1st, 2015 Lighthouse Baptist Church and Pastor Troy Kurtz in Altamont , Illinois called him to be the Pastor’s Assistant and Teen Director. Bobby was instrumental in the  re-chartering and renaming of the church to Heartland Baptist Church, where he still serves to the same capacity today.
Bobby and his family have been a blessing from day 1. He has filled in admirably in the pulpit, chaplaincy, the H.O.P.E. program and many other facets of the ministry. Pastor Kurtz relies on him heavily, especially in administrative duties where he has proven to be very proficient.
The church is also blessed to have Bobby’s wife Mrs. Angela to serve alongside her husband of 7 years. Mrs. Angela serves as bus captain, Sunday School teacher, Kings Kids teacher, and nursery worker. They have 1 child names Aaron and one at home tithe the Lord.
